Age of Pirates: Caribbean Tales (Sea Dogs 3) was released on September 12, 2006. Initial sales were reinforced by the success of the previous two parts of the legendary Sea Dogs pirate franchise, one of the few in the gaming industry today.

Unfortunately, at the time of release, the technical condition of the third part of the Sea Dogs series turned out to be very low. Players also noted a small amount of content, but the main problems remained “buggy” and regular crashes leading to crashes of the Age of Pirates: Caribbean Tales game (Sea Dogs 3).

Despite the situation, the fans continued to modify the Age of Pirates Caribbean Tales game (Sea Dogs 3). The Seaward team was successful in this. Their add-on to the third part of the Sea Dogs (Age of Pirates: Caribbean Tales) under the title Corsairs: Return of the Legend not only fixed the technical problems of the game but also greatly expanded the gameplay and added a lot of new content.

The success did not go unnoticed by publisher Akella, who subsequently partnered with Seaward to further improve their project, the official release titled Age of Pirates 2: City of Abandoned Ships, and, when the rest was complete, the development of a new, Sea Dogs 4 in the Sea Dogs franchise.

In general, when people talk about add-ons in the Sea Dogs community, users usually mean add-ons specifically for Age of Pirates: Caribbean Tales (Sea Dogs 3). Even if we forget about Corsairs: The Return of the Legend and Age of Pirates 2: City of Abandoned Ships for a while, we still have a long list of very high-quality projects, even though not without flaws.

Age of Pirates: Mysteries of Distant Seas, Cursed by Fate, A Pirate's Story, and even Sea Dogs: To Each His Own — all these games owe their existence to the fans of the Sea Dogs franchise and their work, but it was Age of Pirates Caribbean Tales (Sea Dogs 3) that was the main one. At least for this, it is worth rejoicing that such a “bugged” game, nevertheless saw the light.
