This article was prepared during the development of the pirate life simulator game Corsairs Legacy to help popularize the maritime theme in general and pirate games in particular. You can follow project news on our website, as well as on our YouTube channel and on Telegram.
We’re sure you’ve already seen the latest news surrounding the “Legendary Edition of Sea Dogs: To Each His Own”. Overall, opinions on the internet have varied widely: from unrestrained excitement to open accusations that BlackMark Studio is trying to sell the same Sea Dogs game twice.
On March 18, 2021, we interviewed BlackMark Studio and, among other things, asked why players might want to pay attention to Sea Dogs: To Each His Own today. Below, we’re sharing their answer.
“In fact, Sea Dogs: To Each His Own is not a game everyone must play. If you like it—by all means, play it. But there are many alternative Corsairs-style games built on the same engines.
For example: Sea Dogs: Secrets of the Far Seas, Corsairs Ship Pack, Sea Dogs: Return of the Legend, Sea Dogs: City of Abandoned Ships, and Sid Meier’s Pirates, which also uses a Corsairs-based engine.
That DLC, ‘Under the Black Flag’… I wouldn’t really call it a pirate game, even though it features ships. Tempest is more of a mobile-style experience—it’s fairly easy and doesn’t require much effort—but it’s also quite far removed from the Sea Dogs series.”
