Corsairs Legacy team is a group of like-minded people forming a cohesive collective with a common cause and a strong desire to make the best game about the Caribbean in the pirate setting. We are a Ukrainian development studio where 60% of the people in our team are Ukrainian, however, there are people from 5 different countries working on the game. We don’t divide by nationality, we all have one goal and move in the same direction.
Lately, the Ukrainian population has been living in constant fear of invasion, hoping that the goal of the politics of the Russian Federation is negotiations. We didn’t believe in the war till the last moment and continued the development. Last night we interviewed an additional Unity developer for our team, and at the first hour of the night, we assembled a build with all the features in the game which we planned to test this morning.
But, in 4 hours after that, at 5 a.m. a bunch of explosions started to occur all over Ukraine. Some missiles exploded dangerously close to our developers in Mykolaiv and Lutsk. Numerous explosions woke up people in Kyiv, they began to panic, and internet issues started to occur.
Today is perceived as some kind of a nightmare that can be seen only in movies. Words cannot convey this; only those who lived through this can fully understand. Nevertheless, the actions of our people and authorities make us very happy.
The goal of this post is to tell the world and people in the Russian Federation about the situation in Ukraine from our point of view. We really want to live in peace in our country, make games, and plan for the future. We are not aggressive and we do not want to compete with anyone. We voluntarily renounced nuclear weapons in exchange for the Russian Federation to fully support the sovereignty of our country, and now we have to defend our independence.
Today, the Ukrainian part of our team has to think about the safety of their families and friends instead of the development. We are all in constant stress and it hasn’t even been a day since the first bombing of our cities. We don’t know when we will return to the normal work schedule in our studio, but we hope that there will be a force that is able to make the occupation troops leave the territory of Ukraine.
